I have great news to share with you on two fronts today.
First, early this morning, our national partners at Alliance Defending Freedom filed a lawsuit on behalf of four Massachusetts churches in response to the transgender bathroom law’s unprecedented and unconstitutional intrusion into the First Amendment rights of our pastors, priests and houses of worship. If you haven’t heard about this latest assault on our religious liberty, you have to read this article.
I am so grateful to these four pastors and proud to be working with them to ensure that churches in MA are free to teach their beliefs and operate according to their faith without being threatened by the government. They are taking a stand for all of us, because if the First Amendment doesn’t protect them, it won’t protect any of us.
Second, less than an hour ago, I was informed by the MA Secretary of State’s office that the Keep MA Safe campaign to repeal the bathroom bill has officially been certified for the 2018 ballot! This is a huge answer to prayer and the result of a tremendous grass roots effort over the past 90 days.
We are extremely grateful to the thousands of people who courageously signed the petition, at times in the face of threats and intimidation. As voters began to learn about the full impact of this law, we saw them often move from alarm to action. We look forward to spending the next two years continuing to raise awareness about the dangers of this law and making sure voters are fully educated on what is at stake.
We remain committed to defending the fundamental rights to privacy and safety, particularly for women and children, in our Commonwealth.
For our families,
