A citizen initiative to redefine marriage in the state of Maine is likely headed to the ballot this November. The Maine House of Representatives unanimously voted yesterday morning to indefinitely postpone the bill, which has the effect of sending it directly to the voters, reports the Morning Sentinel.

The action by the House avoids a public hearing and a recorded vote. The Senate was expected to concur with the House’s action. In 2009, the Democrat-controlled Legislature approved same-sex “marriage” and then Gov. John Baldacci, also a Democrat, signed the bill into law. However, supporters of natural marriage successfully put the issue on the ballot using the “people’s veto,” and the natural definition of marriage was restored by a 53-47 percent vote.

Votes on marriage redefinition are expected in four other states as well this November.
