From OneNewsNow:
A model and actress is leading the accusations against a national magazine for marketing sexually graphic material to minors.
The magazines with graphic headlines and photos of women in suggestive poses can be hard to miss at the grocery store checkout line. Model and actress Nicole Weider says too much of that is coming from Cosmopolitan magazine.
“The tips in Cosmo are completely graphic and explicit — things that are only meant for a porn movie,” she contends. “It encourages girls to have sex at an early age and to sleep around and have casual sex with multiple partners.”
She asserts that she is not asking the magazine to change its content, but to take responsibility. And if the magazine is for adults, Weider suggests it needs be sold to adults only. But she has no doubt Cosmopolitan is targeting under-age readers. In fact, she notes that 17-year-old actress Dakota Fanning is on the current cover, and 19-year-old Disney favorite Selena Gomez will reportedly be featured soon.
“By placing these teen heroes on the cover, it entices young fans of theirs to obviously buy the magazine and to read it front to [back],” the former fashion model notes.
So Weider has started a petition drive that requests that Cosmopolitan be required to be sold in non-transparent wrappers and only to people over the age of 18. More information about Weider’s conversion to Christianity and her petition, which already has more than 20,000 signatures, can be found at her blog site, ProjectInspired.com.
