Last Thursday, Senator Scott Brown took three important votes, and giving credit where credit is due, voted the right way on two of them. He joined with every Republican senator in voting to defund Obamacare, a vote that failed by a 47-53 margin. On this vote he upheld his promise to be the “41st vote” against the healthcare takeover.

Brown also voted in support of the budget compromise worked out between President Obama, Senate Leader Reid and House Speaker Boehner. Among other things, this compromise prevents the District of Columbia from using any funds, federal or local, to pay for abortion and also cuts funding for the anti-life United Nations Family Planning Agency and Title X domestic family planning.

While I applaud Senator Brown for these two votes, I am not the only one to be disappointed in his vote of confidence in the scandal-plagued Planned Parenthood. Instead of seeing the fiscal and moral truths about the abortion provider, he listened to the media spin and voted to keep taxpayer money flowing into their coffers. The measure failed 42-58, with Senator Brown allying with his Massachusetts colleague, John Kerry, in voting for the funding.

As many on the center-right will remind conservatives, Scott Brown is far better than the alternative, the lockstep liberal Martha Coakley. However, value minded conservatives should not forget that Scott Brown – the candidate they made phone calls for and sent checks to – voted to continue funding Planned Parenthood, refused to sign a letter to Attorney General Holder calling on the Justice Department to prosecute pornography, and reneged on his campaign pledge in repealing the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy.
