Though House Speaker Boehner has acted to have Congress defend the challenge to DOMA in the court system, some of his colleagues have filed opposing bills about the DOMA and are actively signing up co-sponsors.

Rep. Vicky Hatzler (R-MO) has introduced a resolution in the House condemning the move by President Obama to abandon the defense of DOMA, and calling on the President to reverse course. Her resolution is now nearing 100 sponsors. More recently, Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) introduced a bill named the “Respect for Marriage Act” calling for the outright repeal of DOMA. More than 100 co-sponsors have signed onto his bill.

Among the co-sponsor of the anti-DOMA bill include Massachusetts Reps. Mike Capuano (MA-8), Barney Frank (MA-4), Bill Keating (MA-10), Stephen Lynch (MA-9), Edward Markey (MA-7), Jim McGovern (MA-3), John Olver (MA-1), John Tierney (MA-6), and Niki Tsongas (MA-5). The only Massachusetts congressman not a co-sponsor is Rep. Richard Neal (MA-2). Sen. John Kerry has signed on as a co-sponsor of the Senate version of the anti-DOMA bill.
